Mission Statement

At its heart, The Hangout is a safe space…

where LGBTQIA youth can come together, express themselves freely, and participate in a variety of enriching activities tailored to their needs and interests, building their skills.

About our work

The Hangout hosts regular workshops on a range of topics relevant to LGBTQIA youth, including gender identity, sexual orientation, mental health, self-care, and advocacy.

These workshops are designed to provide education, foster dialogue, and equip participants with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate their identities and the world around them.

Our activities

The Hangout organises exciting trips and outings to different locations, allowing participants to explore new places, connect with nature, and build lasting friendships.

Whether it’s a bushcraft day in the Yorkshire Dales, a visit to Flamingo’s café or marching in Leeds Pride, these trips offer opportunities for fun, adventure, and personal growth in a supportive environment.

Our mission statement is to:

Provide a safe, welcoming, and empowering space for LGBTQ+ young people to connect, learn, and grow.

Through our weekly Tuesday sessions, we offer a dynamic environment where youth can engage in diverse workshops and explore new opportunities that foster personal development and a sense of community.

Together, we aim to empower LGBTQ+ youth, promoting resilience, self-expression, and the strength to thrive.

We are committed to:

Providing one-to-one support, offering personalised guidance and care to every young person who needs it.

Our enrichment activities are designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and celebrate the uniqueness of each individual.

We prioritise safeguarding, ensuring that our space remains inclusive, secure, and respectful for all members.

We are dedicated to upholding values of diversity, equality, and collaboration, and to building a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
